     os_flavor
         We're Unix and Cygwin.

     cflags
         if configured for dynamic loading, triggers #define EXT
         in EXTERN.h

     replace_manpage_separator
         replaces strings '::' with '.' in MAN*POD man page names

     init_linker
         points to libperl.a
